Africa: searching for the breadtree

Africa is the third biggest continent of our planet. Its population reaches 900 millions that is approximately 14% of the population of Earth. According to the dominant belief it was the first area where man lived.

Today, Africa remains a beautiful and rich continent whose residents, however, are of the most troubled of Earth. Benign attempts to help from various organizations and international bodies seem to have some short-lived results. At the same time, though, the requests for help create the feeling on the western world that the troubles of Africa are not theirs; they are the troubles of “others”. Is it, however, true? Are the issues of climatic changes, drought, exploitation by third parties, diseases, poverty, immigration and most of all how the “others” live all around the planet so indifferent to us?

Our attempt is through the story of young Tibili who searches for the breadtree (a ready solution to his problem) to sensitize the audience towards some of these issues. Looking for the breadtree Tibili learns what happens around him, in his homeland, to the “others” and discovers that there are no ready solutions to problems, and that we need instead to look inside us and around us to find the solutions ourselves.
